A Mission Of Love And Wellness
Over ten years ago my eighteen month old son was diagnosed with Celiac Disease after becoming seriously ill. Having this diagnosis rendered him unable to eat food that contained wheat, rye, and barley. I was told by his Doctor that eliminating these ingredients from his diet would fully heal his condition, and allow him to lead a happy, healthy life. And so, I made it my mission to understand all I could about CD and living a gluten-free lifestyle. I got really good at reading ingredient labels. And, let me tell you, I read a lot! I thought I was off the hook only having to eliminate three things from his diet, but little did I know, gluten was in EVERYTHING!!! From toothpaste, to eye drops, and everything in between. It surely was a small price to pay though. I had my healthy and vibrant boy back! As I continued on this journey of label reading, I became much more aware at what we were all eating as a family. I never knew that pesticides were on our fruits and vegetables. I never paid close attention to canned food, high fructose corn syrup, or food that had preservatives in it. I had no idea that much of the food we were eating had the potential to make us sick, gluten-free or not. This path of awareness, led me on an education to be not only my son's advocate for safe and healthy eating, but an advocate for my family, and those I love.
Perhaps, it was a plan to prepare me for this next phase of my life. The journey of my role as an Esthetician, and taking care of my clients who are so very important to me. Whether we just meet, you are a family member, a friend, or long-term client; your health and skin care needs are essential to me. Finding products that were effective, and luxurious became my goal. So, I got to work. I had a mission. I began to search ingredient labels... again. I researched medical grade products, organic products, products you can only be licensed to purchase, products endorsed by top Estheticians, and the list goes on. I searched and searched, wanting to find a way to meet those simple things I was looking for: effective, and luxurious skincare. Then, I found this brand called, Beautycounter. Not only did I find what I was looking for, I found something I didn't know I needed. SAFE skincare.
Beautycounter opened my eyes on the state of our virtually unregulated cosmetic and beauty industry. I learned that many personal care products (not just skincare) contained toxic ingredients. Products I was putting on myself, my children, and potentially my clients. These ingredients I was reading on product labels had in fact not been regulated by the FDA since 1938! I never imagined that when it came to the personal care industry, companies would be allowed to use harmful ingredients, and be able to use their own judgements about safety. There are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today. Many don't have any safety data. What's worse is that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not have the authority to remove harmful ingredients from the products we use day after day. Over the past two decades, the European Union has banned close to 1,400 chemicals in product formulas of personal care products and restricted the levels of over 250 more. The United States has only partially banned 30 to date. WE DESERVE BETTER, and Beautycounter is committed to making a change. They got to work, and as company became committed to a health and safety standard that goes well beyond what is required by U.S. law. In their products, they prohibited the use of more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals listed on "The Never List" all while ensuring that the products they create give their trusted consumers effective and luxurious products.
Over ten years ago being diagnosed with Celiac Disease looked very different than it does today. There are aisles upon aisles in the grocery store dedicated to gluten-free food. There are gluten-free restaurants and apps on your phone that guide you toward what products are safe. With more awareness about the disease, and people advocating for their needs to be met to maintain a healthy and safe lifestyle, things changed for the better. The movement toward safer beauty is on the same path thanks to brands like Beautycounter. They have made it their mission to get safer products into the hands of everyone. They believe that to enact real change in the regulatory laws, education and advocacy must meet. If you feel compelled to make a change for you, those you love, and those around you in this great big wonderful world, join our movement. It can be as simple as texting representatives to pass more health protective laws. You can do this by sharing your voice to support the need for reform, and this can be done by texting "better beauty" to 52886. Another way to support and join the mission of advocacy is by helping others transition to safer products. This can be done by becoming a Beautycounter consultant. In doing so, you can build a business that suits your personal needs while helping others make safer choices. These choices may have long lasting effects that you may never even know. Supporting this brand means supporting this movement. The time is now. The need is real. It's time to put the truth back in beauty.
Love and continued wellness to you,
